Bidsted & Co. A/S was founded by Mr. Hilding Bidsted in Copenhagen on 2 September 1940. As the Second World War swept across markets, Mr. Bidsted established the company with focus on merchant shipping. To this day, the perseverance and craftsmanship shown by our founders constitute the core of Bidsted´s culture. Our values have remained the same since 1940; competence, trustworthiness and dependability.

In the booming post-war period, the company expanded its activities from carrying coal to also primarily servicing Danish coaster and bulk-carrier owners. In all modesty, Bidsted has been a major contributor in making the Danish Shipping community what is it today, renowned for its professionalism and personal touch.

The global recession – the subprime meltdown of 2007/2008 – and the ‘Lehman crash’ created havoc in the global markets and the aftermath still to his date, looms over most shipping markets and brokering has been spared. In 2016, Bidsted initiated a thorough strategic review and decided to unwind joint ventures and close overseas representation and focus on bringing the firm back to where it all started: one major hub based in Copenhagen, enjoying a simple business concept, strategy and culture. Bidsted now focuses on serving European and Far Eastern dry cargo charterers, operators and shipowners.
